Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a torrid period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term coach his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from that period of that year.

Success also indicates he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to force a decider.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a close final set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
